Writing & Editing

Writing & Editing

Use your professional writing and editing experience to review drafts, check facts, and explain what makes one version more effective than another.

The Opportunity

This track is for experienced writers, journalists, and editors who can assess a piece of writing beyond whether it sounds polished. Paid assignments draw on familiar editorial skills: recognizing an unsupported claim, checking whether a response answers the brief, and making a sentence more precise without changing its meaning. Professional judgment and a clear explanation of your decisions matter.

For example, two drafts might both read smoothly while only one addresses the intended audience or supports its main claim. A useful review would identify the difference, explain its effect on the reader, and suggest a better version where requested. The actual format, topic, and scoring instructions depend on the assignment.

The selected track asks for professional writing or editing experience and native or near-native English. It expresses a preference for degrees from institutions in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand; that is an education preference, not a stated residency rule. Selection and available assignments depend on the project.

  • Review drafts for accuracy, clarity, structure, and tone.
  • Check factual claims and identify statements that need support.
  • Compare responses against the writing brief and intended audience.
  • Rewrite unclear passages when the assignment calls for a revision.
  • Explain editorial judgments with specific examples from the text.
